Amplifying Filipino music heritage: Tugtog ng Aliwan is back!
As a sidelight of this year’s Aliwan Fiesta competitions, MBC Media Group is bringing back the dynamic Festival Music Competition that originated in 2017, “Tugtog ng Aliwan.”
Accompanying the vibrant street dance performances and grand float parades, this competition is set to highlight the musical talents of the Filipinos from all over the country. The event will be held during Aliwan Fiesta’s first day, June 27, 5PM, in front of the Aliw Theater.
Tugtog ng Aliwan
Aliwan Fiesta will open Tugtog ng Aliwan to all official musicians of the contingents participating in the festival dance competition. Each ensemble must present a medley comprised of one song endemic to the area or region they represent, mashed with one verse and one stanza of the Aliwan theme song.
Minimum time for the presentation is four (4) minutes, and the maximum time is five (5) minutes. Contingents are prohibited from performing any movements that unduly endanger the safety of the musicians. No electronic instruments, pre-recorded instrumentation, or vocals are allowed.
Groups must perform in full costume, and will be judged according to the following criteria:
Musicality (Arrangement, Tonal Quality, Harmony) - 50%
Showmanship (Dynamics and Technique, including costumes and choreography) - 40%
Audience Impact - 10%
A penalty of one (1) point from the total score of all judges will be deducted for every 10 seconds below four (4) minutes, or 10 seconds beyond five (5) minutes.
Prizes at stake
Tugtog ng Aliwan will be giving away cash prizes to the top three contingents, with the first prize winner receiving P100,000. The 2nd runner up will be awarded P50,000, while the 3rd runner up will be taking home P25,000.
